When casting for northerns everybody gets followers.  One way to catch those followers that never seem to want to bite, and all they want to do is look at your lure, is during your retrieve try starting and stoping.  That is let the lure hang in the water for a second or two before continuing with your retrieve.  I guarantee this will increase the amount of fish you catch.
